Calcutta Yoga - Jerome Armstrong

In the 1930s, Buddha became a part of the Bhagabati Ghosh family, who welcomed Buddha into their home at 4 Garpar Road in North Calcutta. Buddha married the daughter of his yogic physical culture teacher, Bishnu Charan Ghosh, and was initiated into the spiritual lineage from the brother known as Paramhansa Yogananda. The trio of Buddha, Bishnu and Yogananda, found their roots in ancient Indian spirituality, Hatha and Kriya yoga. In the 1940s crisis hits both family and city. In the 1950s to 70s they would help bring yoga to Europe, with Gouri Shankar Mukerji, to Japan, and to America, with Bikram Choudhury. During the 20th century, the Calcutta yoga family would modernize and bring the practice of yoga to the world.
