A biography of a Jewish woman, born in 1923 in Bremen. Relates her first experiences of exclusion as a school child, the "Kristallnacht" pogrom in Bremen, the deportation of her father to Sachsenhausen in November 1938, and her own escape to England. Abraham-Levy emigrated to England in 1939 on a Jewish children's transport; ca. 10,000 German Jewish children were saved through the transports. She was supposed to remain in Manchester only until her parents got their visas for the USA, but this never happened; her parents were deported in 1941 to Minsk, and later perished in the Holocaust. Pp. 79-90 contain excerpts of letters written to her by her parents between May 1939-June 1940.
